Relocating during the pandemic, can it be done? | AGS Global Solutions
04/05/2021
As head of mobility at AGS Global Solutions Spain, Antonio González is in a prime position to answer this question.
“The global economy marches on despite the challenges brought about by COVID. We see that multinationals still want to relocate their executives as they adapt to changing markets and work to meet business objectives,” he notes. “Our relocation services have continued throughout this period with a few adjustments, of course.”
The biggest adjustment? Everything takes more time. Today’s assignees can expect their relocation to take about three to four months.
Why so long?
Visa applications take longer. Lockdowns and reduced embassy staffing have caused delays in the processing of applications.
Household goods shipments can also be delayed due to the current worldwide shortage of shipping containers, the result of a sudden increase in demand for Asian exports when initial lockdowns were lifted.
Taken together, these considerations pose challenges but can be overcome with an experienced relocation partner.
“It is a bit more complicated to relocate now, certainly,” confirms Antonio González. “but with detailed planning and communication we can fully support our clients as they establish themselves in their new countries. They appreciate that we still offer all the same services at the same level of quality.”
